Finally AT&T has announced that they will start to upgrade their 3G network across America. The announcement is highly welcome by loyal users of the iPhone who have been suffering from terrible connections and dropped calls in many rural areas. AT&T said they will be upgrading their network starting this year and should be complete by 2011. This means that the AT&T network will be rolling on HSPA 7.2 technology allowing for 3G data speeds of up to 7.2Mbps. This also means that metropolitan areas will see 4G LTE data access by 2012 which means an even faster web.

Apple has announced that they will not allow you to re-download apps that you have already paid for and download in the past. Prior to this announcement if you deleted and app on purpose or accident you could easily go back to the iTunes store using your iPhone and download it for free. Well no more says Apple. Starting with the 3.0 firmware you will either have t buy the app once again or wait until you get home to a PC before re-downloading it for free. The move is not meant to control bandwidth on iPhones but since the new firmware allows multiple accounts they are controlling free app sharing.

A new iPhone and iPod Touch app lets you get right into the political arena. The free app lets you view and compare the voting records for congress representatives and state senators with your own votes on the issues. This lets you see which politician is on par with your own views and who you would like to see remain or ousted in office. The app actually goes one step further by sending reports to the politicians with stats on how users voted compared to them. This should bring a closer relationship to politicians and voters.

A Chinese blog has posted supposed pictures of two new iPhone features. The photos are said to be the first of the next generation iPhone. The website when translated claims that the iPhone will have a auto-focusing camera that has a on-screen square that helps you focus on objects on the screen. There are also photos of a compass feature that is fully digital. No word on how the digital compass will work exactly but it does look cool. There will also be MMS–supporting video and photos, copy and paste, the Voice Recorder app according to the Chinese website.
